Discover Bank Personal Loans Redesign


Award-winning redesign focused on clarity, consistency, and conversion





Project Overview


The Discover Personal Loans site redesign was a large-scale, award-winning initiative that aligned the product’s public-facing site with Discover’s updated brand direction. Our goal was to create a cleaner, more transparent experience that helped users understand loan types, payoff timelines, and payment amounts — with clarity at every step.

I worked with our design team to audit the existing site, identify UX gaps, and create wireframes and modular layouts. Using Figma, I built reusable components that formed the foundation of a scalable design system. Our team conducted usability testing with real users to validate key features like loan calculators and comparison tools, then iterated based on feedback.

  • Site Map & Organization


    We reorganized the Personal Loans experience into a streamlined architecture that clarified loan use cases, calculators, and resources. I contributed to early navigation sketches and helped define the new site hierarchy to improve discoverability and reduce friction during exploration.


    Component Library


    I designed a flexible component system to support consistent UI across the site — including marquees, loan detail modules, FAQs, calls to action, and rate comparisons. These components formed the foundation for all page templates and supported scalable content reuse.


     


    Loan Use Case Pages


    This redesign helped unify the user experience across Discover’s Personal Loans site. Our improvements led to increased user clarity and a smoother application process. The project received external recognition for its impact and design quality.


    Key Site Screens


    I developed high-fidelity designs for core content pages, including “What is a Personal Loan?”, “Debt Consolidation,” and the loan process. These pages were designed to simplify complex information, reinforce trust, and support better conversion through clear visual hierarchy.


    Mobile Design


    I adapted desktop layouts for mobile, optimizing navigation, forms, and content blocks for small screens. My goal was to ensure parity of experience while maintaining performance and brand consistency across responsive breakpoints.





    Conclusion


    This project was one of the most comprehensive digital design efforts I’ve worked on — spanning architecture, reusable systems, and full-funnel UX. It was incredibly rewarding to see our work recognized with a 2023 Banking Tech Award for Best User Experience and a Webby Honoree distinction for Best User Interface. Collaborating across teams and helping evolve the Discover brand at scale taught me a lot about maintaining consistency while still creating experiences that feel warm, human, and clear.
